Prayer vigils for Florida man sentenced to death

The stay of execution for Jose Antonio Jimenez was lifted on October 4th.  The execution was rescheduled last week to take place on Thursday, December 13th at 6:00 p.m.

We encourage you to pray for Jose Antonio Jimenez, his victims, his family, the victims’ family; for all the public officials involved in this scheduled execution; for Governor Scott, that he will discern God’s will and apply the teachings of our Catholic faith on the death penalty.

Please contact Governor Scott to voice your concern. Parishes are encouraged to participate in prayer services at the parish or to attend a prayer service at the execution site in Starke.

Scheduled Prayer Vigils around the Orlando Diocese

  • Friday, December 7, 9:30 a.m. – Catholic Charities of Central Florida, St. Michael Chapel, 1819 N. Semoran Blvd., Orlando
  • Wednesday, December 12, 11:00 a.m. – St. Patrick Catholic Church, 6803 Old Highway 441 South, Mount Dora
  • Thursday, December 13, 5:30 p.m. – Church of Our Saviour, 5301 N. Atlantic Avenue, Cocoa Beach, ,
  • Thursday, December 13, 2:15pm – Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 University Blvd, Daytona Beach will provide Free bus transportation to the State Prison at Starke, Florida, to pray outside of the prison during the execution.  The bus will leave the Church at 2:00pm and make two pick up stops in Daytona and Palm Coast as well.
